Have you experienced total exhaustion? Ever feel like you’re struggling to get through the week? Ever felt extremely overwhelmed by life? If so, it may be a good time to check in with yourself. When we least expect it, burnout is ready to sneak up on us. Burnout can be described as the exhaustion that stems from constant overload or the feeling of being overburdened.
Burnout symptoms can include excessive stress, fatigue, lack of motivation, decreased satisfaction, anxiety, lack of sleep, and detachment from reality. When we experience burnout, it can become increasingly challenging to finish tasks and stay engaged in our individual routines.
You may be wondering how to overcome a stressful time such as burnout, and I’m here to tell you, it will get better. Give yourself grace as you find ways to stay motivated and find peace and balance again. Take it one day at a time and remember that even the strongest individuals experience periods of feeling absolutely submerged with all thing's life. A season of burnout does not make you less capable. No judgment warranted. Restart, readjust, and reset until you begin to feel like yourself again.
Here are some other tools that may be helpful to conquer a period of burnout:
Revisit your “why” - remember the things that kept you motivated before burnout crept in.
Prioritize your “me-time” and self-care. You deserve to take time to do the things that bring you joy.
Set boundaries and disconnect from the things that may be draining and taking away from your peace.
Recognize and reach out to your support systems. Someone may be waiting to show up for you.
Take breaks.
Remember to breathe. Take it one day at a time.
Lastly, keep going and “just keep swimming” because you’ve got this!
